Review Of Coventry City Football Season On The Pitch (my review)

Coventry City Football Club started the 2013/2014 season in Northampton due to the dispute still going on regarding the club and Ricoh Arena over the rent deal. The city were starting the season with -10 points after being put in administration the season before.

It was going to be Steven Pressley first season in charge but with a small squad it looked like it was going to be a tough season ahead of them. The Sky Blues lost there first 2 games of the season loosing to Crawley and Leyton Orient respectively. There first game at Sixfields was in front of a crowd 2,204 and the city won 5-4 against Bristol City with Callum Wilson scoring two goals alongside Billy Daniels and Leon Clarke.   The fun was going to continue at Sixfields and the away games as the sky blues then went 5 games without a lost and slowly brought the -10 to getting themselves out of the relegation zone.

By the time we came to the end of October the Sky Blues have lost two games and they went through October unbeaten and once again it was lifting the Coventry City Football Club towards a Play-off's place and was definitely over achieving with the squad they had but fans spirit's were lifting and some was already thinking of play-offs maybe promotion. The crowds at Northampton were picking up but not a lot as some people suggested. The away games had more of a bigger crowd with most games being sold out. An example of this Wolves away also MK Dons in late November with selling the away allocation out (and maybe the whole ground) .

By the time we were heading the Christmas period the sky blues were in mid table still looking towards promotion but they already booked themselves an FA Cup tie against Barnsley (were they normally win). Coventry City FC played Peterborough at Northampton Sixfields on Boxing Day and the crowd on that day was 4,905 (most of them were Peterborough fans). The sky blues won by 4-2 and Leon Clarke and Callum  Wilson scoring the goals alongside Frank Moussa.

January was a busy month once again for the Sky Blues with a win against Barnsley in the FA Cup 3rd Round. We then got drawn against Arsenal away and with it being LIVE on BT Sport it was a great opportunity for the fans to show there frustration against the owners and all the other people involved the Coventry City not playing Coventry. Eventually the city lost to Arsenal by 4-0 and Leon Clarke being sold a week later back to Wolves.

After the Arsenal game the City still had a chance of the play-offs but must win games in hand but unfortunately the Sky Blues didn't and they started to loose more games and with the squad becoming lower on numbers and attendances falling once again at Sixfields the season was slowly ending. The City didn't really flirt with relegation like most teams have done this season. Yes there was a few weeks where it was squeaky bum time but the last few games the City need a point or two just to stay up and they did do that.

I personally think Steven Pressley has done a great job with small squad/transfer limits he has had to deal with. I was on BBC Late Kick Off a couple of weeks ago and they were asking who the manager of the year for the midlands should be and I kept mentioning Steven Pressley due to the changes and circumstances he has found himself in.

Let's hope next season will be a great season and maybe the City getting promotion and hopefully they will be back in Coventry!

Play Up Sky Blues!!!

Bye Bye Moyes And Europe Football For Manchester United

I am not surprised to wake up on Tuesday morning to find out that Manchester United have sacked David Moyes.

There has been speculation for a number of months now and with the defeat on Sunday confirming that they won't playing European football at Old Trafford for the first time in 19 years, As a Coventry City Fan I have seen managers go left right and centre but this was one of those moments where you were not surprised.

On Sunday I watched the game and I thought the team didn't look like they were up for a fight and support Moyes apart from Wayne Rooney who I felt he gave it 100%. David Moyes when he first came in he changed the backroom staff and I personally didn't think anything was wrong with that as I have seen plenty of managers come in to a club and change there backroom staff but many Manchester United fans thought it was strange and it was his first mistake at the club (count players into that too)

How many managers will be volunteering to help promote the next PL season..?

On the other hand it came to the transfer window and well he messed that up didn't he? He put in a few bids for Bains/Marouane Fellaini,But ended up with having Fellaini for more money on the last day! He was once again promised transfer funds for the January Market to strength the team.

When the January Market came around Manchester United were 7th in the Premier League, were knocked out of the FA Cup 3rd Round by Swansea also they were in the league cup semi final along with Champions League next round to play Olympiacos. Manchester United that transfer window only signed Mata from Chelsea for big money but with one only signing but linked with so many players this wasn't going to end well for Manchester United.

If we move forward a couple of months later Manchester United have lost more games knocked out of the league cup by Sunderland. Out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich and no chance on winning the league title some fans took social media and a aeroplane to voice there feelings on the manager but once again like all the way through season Man.Utd said "He will be given time"

On Monday 21st April David Moyes was once again subject of rumours/newspaper gossip saying he will be given the sack "Within the next 24 hours" but the football refused to talk which to me made it pure and simple in my eyes that they were going to give him the sack.

Then on Tuesday 22nd April they did sack David Moyes and he was replaced by Ryan Giggs for interim and then hopefully they appoint a new manager. Loads of people have lined up/tipped as the new manager including Ryan Giggs. I personally think they will choose Carlo Ancelotti as there new manager if he doesn't win the La Liga with Real Madrid

What's is your views? Do you agree? Do you think he should have been sacked?
